Lpath's lead product candidate, ASONEP™ (the systemic formulation of Sphingomab™), is a monoclonal antibody against a validated cancer target, sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P). ASONEP™ is potently anti-angiogenic, yet it has other mechanisms of action that may prove advantageous in the clinical setting. As such, Lpath believes ASONEP™ may represent the next generation of anti-angiogenesis-based therapeutics. ASONEP is currently being tested in Phase 1 clinical trials in cancer.
Lpath's second product candidate, iSONEP™ (the ocular formulation of Sphingomab ™), has demonstrated superior results in various preclinicial AMD models and first-in-class results in a preclinical model of ischemic retinopathy. In addition, the drug candidate has shown anti-fibrotic mechanisms that might provide comparative advantage in the AMD realm and is also suggestive of efficacy against glaucoma when surgery is required. iSONEP is currently being tested in Phase 1 clinical trials in wet AMD patients.
Lpath's third product candidate, Lpathomab™, is a monoclonal antibody against lysophosphatidic acid (LPA), a key bioactive lipid that has long been recognized as a significant promoter of cancer-cell growth and metastasis in a broad range of tumor types and a significant contributor to neuropathic pain. We have demonstrated a strong anti-angiogenic mechanism of action for Lpathomab™ and have shown encouraging results in several models of AMD and cancer.
Lpath's unique ability to generate antibodies against bioactive lipids is based on its proprietary ImmuneY2™ drug-discovery engine. The company is currently applying the ImmuneY2™ technology to other important lipid-signaling agents, thereby adding to our pipeline of novel antibody-based drug candidates.
